04.04.2009 New species at my Drinking Station

After 1 month silence I'm here again with a good news. There is a new species at my drinking station:

Long- tailed Bushit ( Aegithalos caudatus)










... and the Jay still like the mice meat:

The first wind of the spring is at the door. The snow which came during the previous weeks, almost disappeared. At the drinking station/ feeder, the amount of the birds decrease as the temperature increase, and the native birds which didn't leave Hungary during the winter time, started to quarter their territory.

Today I've visited Komarom- Rüdiger lake with my family, to see this colorful bird. Normaly he is not natural here in Hungary, but that is a fact, he is together with mallards 2 years ago. He is not captive and he is able to fly away. Most likely he relased from a collector.

I had an interesting day today. We've arrived to the hide at 6am. From this time until 1pm, we could shot mainly nothing. But, from 1pm to 3pm, we shot sparrow hawk which has eaten mouse, common pheasant, etc.

Difficult situation. How should I continue? Which one should be the next subject? Fortunately, both of them were so patient to wait for.

Yesterday, I had a boring, tired day at the feeding place, but from species wise, the list is quite good:

- Hooded Crow- (Corvus cornix)
- Raven- (Corvus corax)
- Magpie- (Pica pica)
- Grey Heron- (Ardea cinerea)
- Great White Egret- (Egretta alba)
- Red Fox- (Vulpes vulpes)
- Yellow- legged Gull (Larus michahallis)
